Dr. Andras Schaffer

Dr. Andras Schaffer earned his medical degree from the Medical School of University of Pécs (Hungary) and his Ph.D. in Immunology from Cornell University. After residency training in Anatomical Pathology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and in Anatomical Pathology and Clinical Pathology at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania, he completed a two-year combined research dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. For the next several years, he was an NIH-funded research scientist and an attending dermatopathologist in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was also the Director of the Penn Cutaneous Lymphoma Diagnostic Service. Dr. Schaffer was recruited to Washington University in St. Louis where he built and directed the University’s dermatopathology diagnostic and educational center and served as the director of the Dermatopathology fellowship training program. Prior to joining the Dermatology Associates, Dr. Schaffer worked at Bay Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery.
Dr. Schaffer received several research and educational awards. He is widely published in the fields of basic immunology and dermatopathology. He is an editor and author of the textbook on cutaneous hematopathology. His diagnostic and academic interests include cutaneous lymphomas, inflammatory diseases and melanocytic lesions.
Dr. Schaffer is board certified in Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Dermatopathology. He is a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, College of American Pathologists, and the American Society of Dermatopathology.
